Your mission: what can you expect from the job?

As a Scrum Master, you play a crucial role in our agile engineering teams. The Scrum Master is accountable for establishing Scrum as defined in the Scrum Guide. They do this by helping everyone understand Scrum theory and practice, both within the Scrum Team and the organization. Together with the Product Owner, you are the main SPOC for the engineers within your team. You will also work closely together with the Service Delivery Specialist for customer contacts, resource planning, etc. For HR matters, you will work with the HR Lead for people-oriented discussions, Personal Improvement Plan (PIP), follow-up after Personal Development Plans (PDP), training needs, etc. Your responsibilities:

  • Support the Scrum Team: This is a crucial aspect of the mission. You are the driving force behind establishing Scrum as defined in the Scrum Guide. You do this by helping everyone understand Scrum theory and practice, therefore optimizing the team's effectiveness. You also organize and lead the Scrum Team Ceremonials (Daily Scrum, Backlog refinement, Sprint Review, Sprint Retrospective, Sprint Planning, follow-up, ...).
  • Guard the transparency: The bigger the group, the harder it is to see the whole. A Scrum Master helps people to see beyond their individual perspective. They also remind everyone of the whole-product focus. This is key because unintegrated individual team output won't create customer value.
  • Communicate and collaborate: You foster collaboration and are the first mediator in resolving interpersonal conflicts whenever they occur. You act as the coach of the team on all non-technical aspects. This means there's also a link to HR. As a first line of contact, you give feedback to HR about potential knowledge gaps or training needs, personal situations that require attention or actions, updates about performance (in the light of career growth and comp&ben evaluations), actions in context of a PIP. You are also responsible for the Personal Development Plan (PDP) of colleagues. You conduct conversations twice a year, on the personal development path of colleagues, based on the template that is available.
  • Team Planning, Holidays and Administration: You create the planning of the resources, based on the Sprint Planning, customer demands, and on-call planning. You manage the changes in this planning (due to e.g. illness). This includes also the handling of timesheets and billing preparation, as employees are requested to confirm their timesheets in the tool at least once a week. You consolidate all this info at the end of the month and make preparations for the Finance Officer to start with the billing. Employees requesting holidays to through our HR portal and the Scrum Master is responsible to approve or deny based upon availability, continuity and potential impact on planning and planned days. For Professional Services all requests and planning will be the sole responsibility of the Scrum Master.
